Finding Peace Through Herbs & Faith During the Holiday Blues

The holidays are meant to be a season of joy, yet for many, they quietly usher in feelings of heaviness, anxiety, grief, or emotional exhaustion. Unmet expectations, empty chairs at the table, financial stress, or simply the weight of the year can leave the soul weary.

If this is you, know this first: you are not weak, and you are not alone.

Scripture reminds us:

“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” — Psalm 34:18

God cares deeply about your emotional well-being—and in His wisdom, He gave us natural tools through creation to support the mind, body, and spirit.

Throughout Scripture, plants were used for healing, comfort, and restoration:

“The leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations.” — Revelation 22:2

Here are a few gentle, faith-aligned herbs that can support emotional balance during the holiday season:

Lemon Balm — Peace for the Anxious Heart

Lemon balm is known for calming the nervous system and lifting the spirit. It supports gentle joy and quiets anxious thoughts.

When anxiety tries to steal your peace, lemon balm reminds us of God’s promise:

“Peace I leave with you; My peace I give you.” — John 14:27

Chamomile — Rest for the Weary Soul

Chamomile offers comfort, promotes restful sleep, and soothes emotional tension.

“Come to Me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” — Matthew 11:2

Ashwagandha — Strength in Times of Stress

An adaptogenic herb that helps the body respond to stress more gracefully, ashwagandha supports adrenal health and emotional resilience.

“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.” — Psalm 46:1

Lavender — Calming the Mind Before Rest

Lavender helps quiet racing thoughts and encourages deeper rest and emotional release.

“In peace I will lie down and sleep, for You alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety.” — Psalm 4:8

Herbs are not a replacement for prayer, but a companion to it. When we steward our bodies well, we honor the temple God entrusted to us (1 Corinthians 6:19–20).

Healing doesn’t always come in loud breakthroughs sometimes it comes in quiet obedience, gentle herbs, deep breaths, and trusting God one day at a time.

“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” — Psalm 147:3
